Book Week 2022

Book Week 2022-23 

Brilliant Stars School organized a Book Week from 15th to 18th November, 2022, at its campus. 

The objectives were:

1. Promoting interest in book reading 
2. Fostering the habit of self-reading
3. Each one reads one book 

Inaugurating the programme Mr.  Partha Pratim Chakraborty (one of the renowned writers of Udaipur, Tripura), the chief guest, laid great stress on the relevance of reading other books apart from their syllabus books and urged students to inculcate the healthy habit of reading these books. 

The school also organized an online author interaction session for the students of Grade  6 and 7 with a famous children's book author from Mumbai, Natasha Sharma, who writes for children across all ages. She introduced one of her History Mystery Series books called ‘Shah Jahan’, which was about solving the mystery of “ the replacement of the Timur Rubi with a plum in shah Jahan’s throne and kept in the bag of his younger daughter. Her introduction style was so impressive that it generated a lot of interest and curiosity among students, resulting in asking many questions about creative writing, giving titles to stories, etc. She ended her session with a poem that unfolded the chronology of the mughal emperors. Very interesting way to remember the names!   

There was also an in-person author interaction session for class 8 students with Mr Partha Pratim Chakraborty, who is a prominent writer of two famous magazines of the city " অবিবাহিকা"  means ‘River Basin’ and " চাঁদের  পাহাড় " means ‘The mountains of the Moon’. He suggested the students to build writing habits by keeping a diary,  in which they will be documenting all their daily activities. He gave essential tips for transforming their ideas or imagination into a form of writing. 

All the students from Nursery to Grade 9 were engaged in reading books of various genres with interest and enthusiasm-picture books, funny stories, horror stories, short stories, novels, adventures, travelog, comics, religious books, books on different regions, states, scientific facts, yoga, famous personalities, history, etc. In total 1043 books of different publications, such as: Kahani Tree, Rupa, Duckbill, Penguin, Karachi, Puffin, Talking cub etc. were read by 311 students of different classes. Some of the publications read by the students are: 

Various reading stations were set-up such as in the grassy field, in the library, and in various classrooms. Mostly, students were given freedom to choose the book of their own choice for reading. Being away from their academic studies, students enjoyed reading books of their own choice. They strengthened their vocabulary and language. Some students shared the connections they made with the characters in the stories. Junior students expressed their understanding based on the pictures they observed in the books. Most of the students completed more than one book during the book week.  

The last day was kept for sharing reflections on their reading and giving away awards and certificates to those students who studied the maximum no. of books class-wise. The students were asked to review the book which they read in a prescribed form. They wrote about their  favorite characters, interesting plot, unique features of the book or story etc. One activity was creating a cover page of the book which they read, using their creativity and imagination.  'Readers of the year' and 'best book cover' from each Grade were awarded with a certificate of honour and a book to motivate them to read more books. 

As a whole the book week drew the attention of a lot of students to dive into the ocean of knowledge to discover the pearts of knowledge and wisdom.
